Our applied learning offer is not broad; but the courses that we do run are highly respected in the local employment community; have an established reputation for securing future employment and further training opportunities and are delivered by expert staff.
The OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma is Sport and Physical Activity is another applied learning option that appeals to our Sports and Football Academy students. This qualification is not just about being able to play sport or deal with elite athletes; employers need people who are able to develop sports skills for teams and individuals, work with clients and participants to improve their fitness and change their lifestyles and monitor progress and improvement over time, adapting practices and approaches to suit the needs of individuals. Therefore, this qualification will develop your skills in preparation for employment in sports coaching, either through an apprenticeship or directly into work.
In line with the strengths of our Music Department we offer the BTEC Level 3 Music Performing at Level 3. This modern and contemporary music course focuses on a broad range of musical skills needed in today’s music sector. The main skill of solo/group performing is supported by a range of skills including aural, research of professional practise, improvisation, composing. This course provides a great preparation for a career in the music industry and is designed to enable students to gain useful paid employment in performance, recording, music management, and teaching. It is also possible to study BTEC Level 3 Music Technology. This music course focuses on Music Technology, The Music Industry and Recording Techniques. The main skill of Music Production is supported by a range of skills including listening, research, live sound techniques, sound creation and manipulation.
Through our Sister Sixth Form at the Atrium Studio School we will continue to offer the DEC (Design, Engineer, Construct) Level 3 course, which provides students with an outstanding introduction to the Construction and Built Environment industry, working in partnership with national and local firms such as Keir and Cavanna Homes, ours students work with and on placement with employers, use industry standard software such as REVIT to create designs and follow briefs. In recent years DEC students have taken on Apprenticeships with firms they have completed work experience with and gained places at University to study Design and Architecture.
