About
A Warm Welcome to the Sixth Form
Our focus is "positive students, positive staff, positive outcomes". This informs everything we do, from our curriculum offer through to our enrichment and career development activities. We are proud of our reputation as an inclusive sixth form that enables all students to achieve the highest levels of attainment. Our A Level student outcomes reinforce this commitment and we are justifiably proud of all of our students’ achievements.
The Good Schools Guide describes us as "the most impressive part of the school", so Year 11 students can be assured that the best is yet to come. We offer a broad and engaging curriculum, whilst we are of a size that allows us to cultivate a close and supportive learning community. Each student is known to us and valued by us as an individual.
Our overall results place South Dartmoor Sixth Form in the top 25% nationally for student progress and achievement.
We run a yearly ‘Futures Day’, with invited guests from higher level apprenticeship providers, universities, the National Citizen Service, gap year providers and professionals from the fire, police and ambulance services. Sixth formers work on their CVs, write personal statements, brainstorm ideas to set up their own businesses and network with university admissions teams. We regularly take students to the Apprenticeship Show and the UCAS Convention in Exeter at Westpoint Arena to meet university admissions staff. Our students bring such a diverse range of talents and we help them frame their applications to reflect this.
The pastoral care of our students is crucial at all times and our sixth form is a safe and nurturing environment. A parent of one of our Year 13s endorsed our care, saying: “I have always maintained that your sixth form is amazing. The pastoral care is so good, the students all come across as individuals; the staff know them so well, and always give extra time and effort helping them achieve their very best. I really cannot fault it.”
Sport remains a strength at South Dartmoor Sixth Form, with former students Sam Taylor selected for the England U18 Hockey team and Olivia Dobson gaining a place at university in the USA on a sports scholarship.
