South Dartmoor Sixth Form Celebrates A Level Results
South Dartmoor Sixth Form is again celebrating impressive A Level results. Our students have maintained our strong academic tradition and, as in previous years, they have performed exceptionally well, securing places across the country at top universities including at Russell group universities such as Cardiff and Edinburgh. In addition to this, one in three students achieved an A or an A* grade and there was an outstanding overall pass rate of over 97%. Most importantly, the vast majority of students secured the grades they need to enable them to move on to their first choice for the next stage of their futures and it is these personal stories that are so very interesting and rewarding.
Many students performed exceptionally well; among them, Olivia who got four As and a B is going to explore a degree apprenticeship, and Jim who got three As and a B, securing a place at Loughborough after taking time out to be a ski instructor in Canada. In many subjects, students achieved or exceeded their targets, including in the Arts, in subjects such as Music and Fine Art. This bucks the National decline in achievement in creative subjects and illustrates the importance we place on these valuable curriculum areas. Furthermore, in Cambridge Technical Sport and Physical Activity 50% of students achieved triple Distinction plus, with every student exceeding their targets.
Jen Veal, Executive Headteacher, said: “We have so much to celebrate. Education is all about opening doors for students for their futures and we are so proud of what they have achieved. We have students going to read sociology, psychology and maths and statistics at Cardiff, graphic design at Edinburgh and Leeds and one student who is going to study music at the top music conservatoire, Trinity Laban. However, we continue to recognise that, although the results are important, our students are so much more than just their grades. They are amazing young people who have contributed so much to the school community during their time with us. We wish all the students every success for the future. We hope they will stay in touch as they continue their educational journey or venture out into the world of apprenticeships or work.
“On behalf of the staff, we congratulate all our students and wish for them the very best that life has to offer.”
