Pond Explorers

Year 7 HPA STEM students worked together to improve the health of our pond by clearing duckweed and removing leaves and twigs that had accumulated over time.
They then investigated the fascinating variety of life within the pond ecosystem. Using identification guides and microscopes, students discovered a range of larger organisms, including newts, water spiders, dragonfly nymphs and Ramshorn snails, as well as microscopic organisms such as Volvox and Paramecium.

Students were fantastic throughout the session, demonstrating excellent care, attention to detail and strong practical skills when using both light and dissecting microscopes.
