Mud, Newts and a Hidden Pool

This week’s Trail Trotters run returned to Haytor, where the group finally uncovered the small quarry pool hidden within the landscape. After missing it on their previous visit, it was satisfying to at last stand at its edge and take it in.

Quiet yet full of subtle life, the pool revealed one tiny fish and a couple of newts. Local lore, supported by previous visitors, suggests that leeches also make their home there once the weather warms. Later in the season, lily pads are expected to appear, transforming the pool’s character as spring gives way to summer.
This run marked the final outing of the half term. Special recognition goes to Joe, who continues to lead both literally and figuratively from the front. His steady pace‑setting, positive energy and strong example make a noticeable difference each week.
We look forward to welcoming many of this great crew back after Easter, along with a mix of new and familiar faces for the miles ahead. Here’s to more trails, more discoveries and plenty more muddy moments!
