Outstanding GCSE Results

South Dartmoor Community College students are celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE results having exceeded their targets, placing them firmly within the top 20% of students nationally.
This cohort has demonstrated remarkable commitment, resilience and aspiration through their academic endeavours and we are really proud of them. These results highlight significant achievements not only in core subjects such as English, Maths and Science, but also across a wide range of practical, creative and vocational subjects, reflecting the high standards of teaching and learning across all departments.
Students achieved particularly well in academic subjects, with numerous top grades awarded across the board. For example, 59% of student grades in Physics and 56% in Biology were awarded at grade 7 or above, demonstrating the strength of the College’s Science department and the dedication of both staff and students.
Performance in Maths and English was similarly impressive. In Maths, 65% of students gained a grade 5 (strong pass) or above, meeting or surpassing their externally set targets. In English an impressive 64% of students achieved a grade 5 or above. Students excelled in Drama, with 100% gaining a grade 6 or above, and in French, where 94% secured a grade 5 or above. In Child Care, 62% of students achieved a Level 2 Distinction Star or Distinction, affirming the College’s commitment to providing diverse educational opportunities. These outstanding achievements continue to reinforce South Dartmoor’s reputation for academic excellence.
Jen Veal, Executive Headteacher, commented: “I was particularly fond of this year group. They are an exceptional group of young people, engaging wholeheartedly with their learning and with staff and striving to make the most of every opportunity. These superb results are a testament not only to their determination, but also to the dedication and skill of our teaching staff. The close relationships forged between teachers and students, combined with outstanding subject knowledge, have resulted in outcomes that the entire college community can celebrate. We are proud not only of their academic achievements but also of the wonderful people they have become—responsible, kind, good fun and intellectually curious. They are so much more than a set of grades; they are the future, and we celebrate them.”
Abi Slater, Director of Sixth Form, added: “We are thrilled to be welcoming back so many of this talented year group to continue their studies with us in the Sixth Form. Their academic success and personal growth make them well prepared for the next stage of their educational journey. We are also looking forward to greeting new students joining us from across South Devon in September, and to providing a supportive, challenging environment for all. We wish every student success and happiness as they move forward, whether continuing with us or pursuing new opportunities elsewhere. Our staff are immensely proud of all students and look forward to watching them flourish in the years to come.”
On behalf of all staff, congratulations to every student who collected results today. Your hard work and determination have paid off, and we wish you the very best for the future.
