Greenpower Kit Car F24

The engines may have been electric, but the energy was anything but quiet as our two student teams hit the tarmac at Castle Combe Race Circuit for the Greenpower Kit Car F24 event. With a 7:30am start, the bleary-eyed but buzzing students arrived ready to race, wrench and represent.
Under perfect racing conditions—bright skies, cool air and not a drop of rain in sight—our two teams rolled out their electric kit cars for a day of high-voltage action. The mission? To squeeze every last metre out of a pair of batteries in a 90-minute endurance race. No pressure.
Dylan, Jonty, Rueben and Bill in Team 1 took the wheel of our trusty older car, while Wayland, Samma, Charlie and Harry in Team 2 piloted the shiny new red model. Both teams got in some solid practice laps, though Team 1 quickly noticed their car was feeling a little sleepy. Battery issues would become their nemesis of the day, with both races ending around the 60-minute mark. Investigation pending—possibly involving magnifying glasses and dramatic music.
Meanwhile, Team 2’s car zipped along like a dream, completing the full 90 minutes in both races without breaking a sweat. Okay, the drivers might have sweated a little.
One of the coolest parts of the Greenpower challenge was that no adults were allowed in the pits or on the track. That meant the students were in charge of everything—driver swaps, lap planning and technical troubleshooting. It was like Formula 1, but with more sandwiches and fewer million-dollar budgets.
Both teams were absolute stars, showing off not only their engineering skills but also teamwork, resilience and a healthy dose of good humour. They have made us proud.
Massive thanks to all the parents who braved the early start, and to Mr. Dale who has basically lived in the workshop for the past few months making sure these cars were race-ready. Shoutout to Bowden and Tucker Joinery Ltd for the trailer loan, and to On Stream Energy, whose generous donation helped us get that second car on the grid.
Want to get involved? The Greenpower Kit Car Club runs every Tuesday and Thursday during Break 2, although you’ll find the team up there pretty much every lunchtime! Pop up and see us if this sounds like your thing. Whether you're into driving, designing or just getting your hands dirty, there's a place for you on the team.
And finally, we’d love to see more girls on the team next time. Engineering is for everyone, and we know there’s talent out there just waiting to take the wheel.
