Inspired at Make Southwest

Following their inspiring sessions at MAKE Southwest, Year 10 Art and Design students took time to reflect on their visit, the skills they developed and the creative inspiration they gained. The following account has been written by the students in their own words:

We all thought that MAKE Southwest was a fun and enjoyable experience. It was cool and interesting to be able to learn new skills, and we are all so grateful to Joss and Ian for sharing their skills and showing us their world of art.
It was nice to be able to have freedom when using clay to create something that represents our creative skills and creating a unique piece of art inspired by Peter Randell Page. We were delighted to have this opportunity and to be able to have such a wonderful experience especially when it comes to their creative kinetic art gallery.
Doing this allowed us to see people’s passion for art and to see art from different perspectives. Throughout the gallery we were able to observe and interact with some of the art displays that were on show and whilst going round we had the opportunity to do some observational drawings to create a dodecahedron.
To do our dodecahedrons we used biro to make them monochromatic and when created they all looked amazing. Honestly, there wasn’t a single dull or boring moment and every single second of it was engaging and fun.
This was a really fun and educational experience that we all enjoyed so much. We are all just so thankful to have been given the chance to work with some amazing people to learn new skills.
We all look forward to visiting again because MAKE Southwest truly offers something unique and memorable that’s both enjoyable and highlights both traditional craft techniques and modernistic art.
