Mr. Stokes Takes on the Wild Horse 200

A Journey of Endurance and Pizza
Hey everyone! It’s Mr. Stokes again, and I’m excited to share my upcoming adventure with you. I’m gearing up to tackle the Wild Horse 200, a challenging 200-mile ultra-marathon through South Wales from May 21 to May 26, 2025.
My Journey
Six months ago, I started training for this monumental race, running almost every day. With a mindset as strong as the Welsh mountains, I’ve embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. And guess what? Friday nights have been reserved for recovery, featuring the much-loved family tradition of pizza night – a delicious way to recharge for the weekend ahead.
Training Highlights
Despite a few minor injuries, the majority of my training has gone to plan, and I’m feeling strong and positive. A few of my training highlights include:
- Longest Training Run: A 100k run up and around North Dartmoor to Okehampton and back.
- Personal Best Times: Marathon, Half Marathon, 20K, 10 Mile, 15K and 10K.
- Recovery Day: Friday night pizza night.
The Route: A Scenic Challenge
The Wild Horse 200 route is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and challenging terrain, traversing the picturesque and demanding areas of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. The Black Mountains are known for their rugged beauty, offering steep climbs and stunning views as I navigate ancient paths and remote landscapes, experiencing the raw beauty of nature. The Brecon Beacons, famous for their rolling hills and dramatic peaks, are a highlight of the race, where I will encounter diverse wildlife, historic landmarks and panoramic vistas that make every step worthwhile.
Inspiring Others
My mindset is as solid as the mountains I’ll be running through. With a positive attitude and a sense of humour, I’m ready to face the challenges ahead. If I can survive a week of teaching, I can survive 200 miles of running! I hope to motivate students and teachers alike to complete their own challenges.
What challenge will you take on?
Think about something you’ve always wanted to achieve. It could be learning a new instrument, mastering a sport or excelling in your studies. Share your goals with your friends and teachers, and let’s support each other in reaching new heights!
