  • CERTIFICATES

    Published 12/03/18

Certificates from June 2017 and previous seasons are available for collection NOW from the exams office on main site. Please come and collect them ASAP. Legally we only have retain the certificates for 12 months and after that we are legally allowed to shred them. We do keep certificates for longer than that but will begin a policy of shredding after 24 months and this will begin in Jan 2019.

It is advisable that they are collected ASAP and stored carefully as they are expensive to replace, approximately £70 per certificate.

The exams office is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm Mon - Fri.  If you are unable to collect in person, then you can send someone on your behalf with written confirmation that are authorised to collect. Alternatively you can send a Stamped Addressed Envelope to the exams office and we can post to you, (at your own risk).

If you have any queries then please don't hesitate to contact exams@southdartmoor.devon.sch.uk.

    Best wishes

    Miss E Dixon

  • School Closure Thursday 1st March

    Published 01/03/18

    Dear Parent/Carer,

In consultation with the Chair of Governors and Rachel Shaw (CEO, South Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust) I have made the difficult but correct decision to close the school today (Thursday 1st March).  This decision has not been taken lightly and has been delayed until I had the most up-to-date and reliable information to hand, including onsite staff reporting throughout the night and in the early hours of this morning (recognition must also be given to the countless staff who have enabled this to happen).  Over the last 24 hours I have endeavoured to keep all our community up-to-date via our website and successfully kept the school open yesterday.  However the safety of our staff, students and community is paramount and addressing the issue of the Met Office amber weather warning at 12:00 today.  If this forecast is correct it would ultimately mean that we have a near capacity school in the morning followed by a full Severe Weather Evacuation a few hours later for staff and students with all the associated risks and a significant numbers of staff and students needing to access and entering the transport system at a potentially challenging time.

I will continue to carefully monitor the weather conditions over the next 12 hours with the intention of re-opening the College on Friday 2nd March but will also act on any advice provided regarding the extent and impact of the severe weather today.  A final decision made either this evening or a similar time on Friday (2nd March).

Staff will ensure all work from today’s lessons is published and accessible via Show My Homework.

I sincerely apologise for the disruption to learning this has caused but hope you appreciate such circumstances are beyond our control.

    Yours faithfully,

    Paul Collins

    (Principal)

  • Weather Update

    Published 28/02/18

Please note we are continuing to closely monitor the weather conditions and currently the College remains open.  All updates will be immediately posted on this website and therefore provide you with the most up-to-date information. 28-02-18 12:30pm

Further to the last update, we can confirm that the College continues to remain open and we are in constant communication with our transport providers as we approach the end of the day.  Please note that all after College activities today will be cancelled and we encourage students and staff to make a prompt departure at the end of the day so long as it is safe to do so. 28-02-18 13:00

Despite the fact that some staff and students have had to depart early due to the adverse weather conditions in the surrounding areas we have successfully remained open throughout today.  We will monitor the weather conditions closely between now and 06:00 tomorrow (Thursday 1st March) and again provide any updates via this website.  So long as it is safe to do so, we will obviously remain open.  If however under exceptional circumstances we are forced to close the school, work will be set via Show My Homework. 28-02-18 15:15

It has been brought to our attention that a digitally altered image of this webpage has been created and circulated by a student via social media that states the College is closed until Monday.  THIS IS CURRENTLY NOT THE CASE.  Please can you directly refer to this website for official information and updates.  If you are able to help identify the name of the student(s) involved in creating this false image please could you inform us via the “Report an Issue” button at the bottom of the website Homepage. 28-02-18 16:00

Our web hosting provider who supplies a platform for all the Academy websites (as well as thousands of other schools nationwide) experienced a huge spike in demand this morning, and despite anticipating this and increasing capacity, the numbers of visitors to school websites was 7 times the normal level, they have added even greater capacity to allow for 75,000 visits per minute but there is a possibility the website still might go down, so with this in mind we will also post weather updates on our Official Facebook and Twitter pages as well as via the College email system. 28-02-18 16:45

  • Body Language - IMPORTANT UPDATE

    Published 28/02/18

A decision has been made to postpone the Body Language performance that was due to take place on Thursday 1st March and Friday 2nd March.  This decision has not been made lightly but we have done so in the best interests of our students, their families and our communities.  With well over 150 performers including primary projects and sold out auditoriums we are aware of the huge impact of this and can only apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Body Language will now take place on the following dates and all information regarding this will be communicated with performers, their families and our audiences very shortly.

Thursday 1st March will be held on Wednesday 14th March at 7pm.

Friday 2nd March will be held on Friday 16th March at 7pm.

We ask that all families involved in Body Language 2018 await more information and avoid contacting SDCC or the Dance Department whilst a plan is put in place.  Keep up to date by checking the SDCC website and social media pages. We will release a letter with further details today.

All performers involved in BL 2018 have been informed of this decision in an assembly this morning and we are really proud with the way in which students have responded. They have shown understanding, support and appreciation and are very much looking forward to sharing their outstanding work with you all on Wednesday 14th March and Friday 16th March.

    Yours Sincerely

    Abi Cowell

    Acting Head of Department
