Welcome back to all our students, staff, families and friends. I hope that everyone had a restful break. Returning to school in September always seems difficult, but it has been fantastic to see how students and staff have all returned with purpose and pride in themselves and the college.
After taking time to reflect on a very busy and exciting first week, I can honestly say it is a privilege for me to lead a College of talented, professional and dedicated staff who aim to create an environment where all students can flourish.
Students have started the new term well and appear refreshed and ready for the new school year. Having met with the whole student body during a College assembly this week, I was impressed with both their behaviour and attitude. As a school, we discussed our focus on learning and how students can choose to take up every opportunity presented to them and have the ability to be anything they desire.
All staff value your support and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all families in advance and recognise how crucial the role is between the school, parent and student partnership; as we work together to ensure every South Dartmoor Community College student achieves their potential.
The new academic year provides opportunity to refocus on our goals and ambitions. I encourage all students to make themselves proud in 2019-20 and to identify and address their own “gaps” in knowledge, understanding, attendance, behaviour and progress. Let’s also make sure that we have fun and enjoy our time at College both in and outside of lessons.
It is my intention, alongside the Interim CEO Angela Barry, to hold a "meet and greet" opportunity on the 19th September at 5pm in the Main Hall; which I sincerely hope you can attend. This will give me an opportunity to meet the parent body and for all parties to share their vision for the future of the College and wider community.
