Primary Schools Impact Days

South Dartmoor Learning Community primary schools enjoy more of their 'Bespoke Impact Days'. By Becky Mason (SSCo)

Our SDLC bespoke impact days have continued to develop and be successful. I have missed organising our usual large festivals and tournaments at SDCC, but there are some positives of Covid 19 - I have really enjoyed working closely with so many more pupils and teachers in their school settings. It has also been wonderful to see so many pupils across the SDLC accessing and entering into the different DSSP and Devon School Games virtual competitions.

At Ashburton Primary School I ran a Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 inter house sports day with the pupils all competing in mini races and fun activities to win points for their house teams. All the scores were added up to give the over all results. Medals were awarded for two superstars for good sportsmanship in each class. The weather was dreadful, but that didn't dampen our spirits.....as the pupils learnt how to do my new 'covid cheering'.....cheering with every part of their body except their voices! Brilliant fun!

Both Bovey Tracey Primary and Buckfastleigh Primary schools opted for a 'positive playtimes in their class bubbles' impact day. The idea was to encourage and develop safe, inclusive, fun and active playtimes with minimal equipment. All the pupils learnt lots of games and enjoyed taking turns and coaching each other too. All the staff got a resource pack of ideas to continue to try out some new activities with their classes. I hope to have re-introduced the 'slastics' (French skipping) craze and a new 'Island invaders: Rock Paper Scissors' game too - all the pupils loved it!

Blackpool Primary school completed their whole school inter house sports day experience, this time with all the Key Stage 1 children taking part. They were so excited and had lots of fun doing mini races and games. Medal were awarded to two superstars per class for their sportsmanship too. During the afternoon I had a meeting with their PE Iead and then worked with some mini intervention groups of Year 3 & 4 pupils focusing on Basketball skills.

With the continued restrictions our bespoke impact days are continuing on in the Spring term - so watch this space for more highlights.... which will somehow include our annual Primary Body Language show!
