Food and Canteen

MENU

  • All meals are freshly prepared and cooked daily on the premises

  • Menus are designed to reflect the season availability of fresh, locally produced ingredients

  • The nutritional balance of our meals ensures that we comply fully with the new Government regulations regarding Nutritional Standards in Secondary Schools (September 2006)

  • The cooking methods ensure that no salt is added to food during the preparation and cooking stages and that no additional fats are used in cooking

  • Students are encouraged to make suggestions and menu requests

  • The College promotes Healthy Eating and encourages all students to eat a varied diet
    (a copy of the School Meals Policy is available from Scoffers office)

  • All vended items meet our healthy eating criteria (low fat, salt and sugar)

  •  The Snack Shack provides students with a wide range of healthy-style snacks

In December 2008 South Dartmoor were presented with the Taste of the West Gold Award organised by the Local Food in Schools Award.  This award was introduced for the first time in 2008 and the organisers were delighted with the response, showing a clear interest in sourcing healthy, locally produced food in schools and educating pupils about their diet and food.

 

The Scoffers logoTHE CARD PAYMENT SYSTEM

  • Every student is issued with a free Scoffers Card. Defaced cards will be withdrawn and replacements will have to be paid for.
  • The system enables you to monitor what your child is buying/spending and put restrictions on daily purchases
  • Cheques are welcome. Please make payable to SDCC
  •  Payments can be made using a highly secure website www.parentpay.com
  •  Free School Meals are added to student’s card daily. They cannot be carried forward to the following day.
  •  Lost or stolen cards should be reported to Scoffers Office where a replacement can be arranged. Cost £2.50
  •  Any student who has genuinely forgotten their card or dinner money will be provided with a healthy option meal to the value of £1.75.

THE SERVICE

  • The catering staff are all highly motivated and committed to providing a quality service
  • All staff undertake regular training in Food Safety, Nutrition and Healthy Eating
  • Several staff have completed an NVQ programme of training with others currently working towards achieving an NVQ certificate in Food Preparation and Customer Service
