Alex gets England call up
South Dartmoor Academy & Chelsea FC Foundation player Alex Woodgates will represent the U20 England CP Team in Dublin at the end of the month. From 31st March to 3rd April 2016, Lucan, the Republic of Ireland will host the 'Dublin Friendship Tournament 2016' welcoming international CP Football teams from England, Italy, Denmark & Rep of Ireland.
Alex competes in the U19 National Development League for the Chelsea FC Foundation Academy who are based at South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton. The league consists of professional clubs’ development teams from across the country and is therefore at a very high standard. Everyone at South Dartmoor is very proud of his achievement and feel it is well deserved recognition for his hard work and dedication to his football development. Colin Lee, Sports Academy Director said, “ Alex competes against able body players at a high standard despite having CP, this is a magnificent achievement in itself and we are overjoyed that he has been selected to play for his country. Alex is one of the most dedicated and professional people that I have had the pleasure of working with and we wish him the very best of luck when representing England in Dublin”.
The Chelsea FC Foundation football academy programme at South Dartmoor now has not one, but 2 players who are representing England International football teams. Alex joins fellow international Cianan Breen who helped the English Schools U19 team to victory against Northern Ireland last month, and Captained the England team on their recent Spanish training camp at Villarreal.
South Dartmoor’s Chelsea FC Foundation Academy will be holding trials on 5th April 2016 at their Ashburton base for September 2016 entry and anyone interested in joining the programme should email Chris Beard or call on 01364 652230.
