Level 3 Applied Courses

Our vocational learning offer is not broad; but the courses that we do run are highly respected in the local employment community; have an established reputation for securing future employment and further training opportunities and are delivered by expert staff.

We offer Hairdressing as a two year course with the final award of VRQ Level 3 Diploma. To access this course, students must already have gained the Level 2 VRQ in Hairdressing. If this has been obtained somewhere other than at South Dartmoor, an advisory meeting and trade test will be required. The course is delivered in partnership with Plum Salon, Buckfastleigh. This provides access to a commercial salon, with a team of experienced, qualified professionals who are highly regarded in the industry. The progression opportunities from this course include employment, the Level 4 Award in Advanced Hairstyling and a Foundation Degree in Hairdressing.

We also offer Level 3 Child Care and Education (Early Educator). The Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education (Early Years Educator) enables learners to gain the knowledge and experience which will allow them to work with children from birth to 5 years.

Upon achievement of the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education it is intended that learners will be able to access higher education or enter the workforce as an Early Years Educator. This qualification aims to support learners to work with children in a supervisory role. The course ensures learners are vocationally competent; as learners have to undertake work experience in a variety of childcare settings. Successful learners may progress to a Higher Education programme or employment in the early year’s sector; including working in a nursery; children’s centre, pre-school and school. All progression routes are reliant upon the student reaching certain levels in Literacy and Numeracy. UCAS confirm maximum allocation of 420 points at A* to the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (EYE); this will allows students to progress onto university level courses.
