South Dartmoor
Community College

Cricket

Cricket is one of the strongest sports at South Dartmoor, built on a culture of practice and dedication throughout winter and spring terms which readies us for a summer of competition and success.  In the last two seasons the college has won 3 national titles and has had a large number of students on performance pathways ranging from County to International.

How often will I train?

Our Cricket Academy students train for 3-5 dedicated hours per week throughout winter, with more time in the summer term.  You will receive team, small group and individual cricket training, alongside the general Sports Academy programme of strength and conditioning and mentoring support.

What are my opportunities?

The Cricket Academy coaching will be led by both a High Performance Cricket Coach and a Community Cricket Coach in partnership with the Devon Cricket Board. This will give the players in the Academy help with all aspects of their game, as well as performance analysis.  The cricket academy programme will be supported by Julie Ingham-Hill, who has coached teams to two National titles in the past two seasons.  Cricket Academy students play a number of high level matches against top opposition – including county development sides and public schools. We host an annual prestigious fixture against the MCC – an honour usually reserved for County clubs and public schools and run a Cricket Academy tour week after exams – whereby players spend an intense week training and competing across a wide geographical area.

What will I study?

Cricket Academy students are free to pick any Sixth Form courses, provided the standard entry requirements are met.   The games programme in the summer term will continue post-exams so it is hoped that players can stay available for matches in June and July, even if on study-leave or if your final year exams have been completed. An overseas tour week is currently being planned.
