South Dartmoor has a modern, well equipped Library which is available for use before College, at break and at lunchtimes.

The Library is open at the following times:

Monday to Thursday:

8 a.m. to 5.15 p.m.

Friday:

8 a.m. to 3.35 p.m.

The Library is available all day for private study by the Sixth Form during their free periods. 

  • Students who arrive early may use the Library for homelearning, quiet reading for pleasure or preparation for the day
  • After hours learning: Library Staff available to support students with homelearning and independent study. (Mondays to Thursdays only)
  • The LIbrary is also open during morning break - 11.25 - 11.45 and lunchtime - 12.45 - 1.30

The Library is an environment where students are welcome to come and enjoy an area where quiet and serious independent work and research can take place.

The Library may be used for private reading for pleasure, for borrowing reading books and books to help you with your studies and Home Learning.  There are magazines, newspapers and computers available for your use.  All computers are connected to the internet.

The Library is open to help students with Home Learning.  The Library stocks a wide range of books, CDs and DVDs on all subjects as well as revision guides and all textbooks used in the college. 

Library Staff are always available for help and advice.

Aims of the South Dartmoor Library

  • To support the College curriculum
  • To encourage reading for pleasure
  • To develop information literacy and independent study skills.

The Library contains:

  • Fiction works to suit all tastes
  • Non-fiction works (representing all curriculum subjects)
  • Reference Works (dictionaries, encyclopaedias, atlases, etc)
  • Reference Textbooks (copies of familiar classroom textbooks)
  • Revision/Study Guides in all subjects.
  • Daily Newspapers and a range of magazines

A memory stickThe Library provides access to electronic media (Internet, CD ROMs, DVDs etc) including 30 PCs connected to Broadband Internet with access to the Virtual Learning Environment or VLE (materials previously downloaded from the Internet by subject staff) and checked for suitability and stored for easy access by students.

The Library has printing, scanning and photocopying facilities for use by students (may be subject to a small charge).
