Information for Enrichment Week 2009 - the info for 2010 will be advertised in the new year:
Enrichment Week is an important part of the calendar at South
Dartmoor. For the week of 13—17 July 2009, the normal College
timetable will be suspended for Years 7, 8 and 9. Students and
staff will spend the week participating in a variety of activities not
usually available during the normal College day. The week is an
opportunity to increase the breadth and depth of the education we
offer and also to allow staff and students to work together in less
formal situations. Students will be given the chance to reflect
upon their experiences and achievements during the course of
the week.
Attendance
We regard Enrichment Week as an important part of your son or daughter's education, and expect normal attendance. Reasons for non-attendance will be required as usual since the College has to provide details of all unauthorised absences to the Department for Education. Every absence must be supported by a parental explanation which will be authorised by the College if the reason is acceptable i.e. illness, medical appointment, emergency, religious observance or business that could not take place at any other time (e.g. music examination).
Payment for Activities
All costs are approximate and will usually depend on the final number of students taking part in each activity. Arrangements have been made to subsidise activities where possible and so we ask you to pay the amount stated for the chosen activity, although contributions are voluntary. If there were insufficient contributions, then the activity may have to be cancelled.
We have ensured that there is a broad range of activities, both in terms of interest and cost, which will enable everyone to participate in a worthwhile activity. Once you have received confirmation of your son or daughter's place on the activity, you will be asked to pay the first instalment which will act as a non-refundable and a non-transferable deposit. All subsequent payments must then be completed before Enrichment Week begins for a student to participate in their chosen activity.
A small amount of hardship money is available thanks to contributions from the Student Council and the Rotary Club of Ashburton and Buckfastleigh. Details are available from me at the College. Please discuss any hardship issues with me as soon as possible as the funds available are limited.
Choosing an Activity
Please read through all the activity details presented in this booklet. All activities are identified by a 3 letter code. Students should choose 3 activities which they would like to do and complete the Return Form at the back of this booklet. This form should then be returned to the collection box in Student Reception as soon as possible but by the end of January at the latest. Confirmation of your son/daughter’s place on an activity will not be given until all lists of participants have been agreed.
If any parents wish to assist during the week in any way, please let me know. Similarly, if there are any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Activity Leader or myself at the College.
Yours sincerely
