Craig Axford - Head of History

History, Ancient History and Politics Intent

Students are passionate and engaged with History and the Classical World and develop a lifelong love of the subject. Students better understand the world around them by studying the past and making connections (History as both alien and familiar). Students become confident scholars, able to engage with cause and consequence, significance, change and continuity, similarity and difference. Whilst effectively using, analysing and interpreting a variety of sources.

Students become better learners, ready and equipped for the next phase of education/ workplace/ wider world, by learning to think and act like a professional scholar/ researcher/ student.

Classical civilisation students understand the key themes of some of the greatest works of Western literature, such as Homer's Odyssey, Virgil's Aeneid. And Herodotus’ Histories and are able to use ancient texts/ physical sources to support, develop and critique arguments.
