‘Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity." John F Kennedy

The purpose of the Physical Education curriculum at SDCC is to promote physical fitness, develop motor skills, and foster a lifelong appreciation for physical activity and health. Students are immersed in a knowledge-rich PE curriculum that aims to develop their subject specific knowledge on a wealth of topics including effective training methods, anatomy and physiology of exercise and sports psychology.

All PE lessons will develop a students’ conceptual knowledge, focusing on broader topics such as communication, leadership and problem solving. By increasing their knowledge and skills in these topic areas our students are empowered to make great progress not just in PE, but all their other subject areas and in their endeavours beyond SDCC. Our extra-curricular offer is broad and inclusive and aims to give all our students the chance to improve their mental, physical and social well-being, as well as regular opportunities to experience competitive sporting events against other schools in both the local area and nationally.
