STUDENT COUNCIL 2009 - 2010

Student Council in aim to lower college carbon footprint

We are the Student Council and we have recently begun a new initiative to lower our school's carbon footprint and raise awareness of the importance of this.  We feel that this is important because if we don't act then we can never solve this problem.  All of our departments have taken an area from recycling to switching off lights.  With all of our efforts we hope to make a huge difference and do our bit to save the planet.  We are progressing well with this project and we have even reached the stage of ringing the council for recycling bins.

The SDCC Student Council meet once a week to discuss issues relating to the whole College.

The Council set the dates for Mufti Days when money is raised by students who pay to wear their own clothes to College, instead of uniform.

All students have the opportunity to raise issues with the Council by logging on to the SDCC Forum where you will now find an area dedicated to the Student Council.

Sports Relief – 14th March

On March the 14th Sports Relief took place to help give kids like us the chance to do things that they could never have dreamed of. A fun run mile took place over the days of Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th of March. Every student participated in this mile to help raise money for sports equipment. We had spectacular things in every year that happened during this run including 3 legged races and students dressing up as characters such as Donald Duck.

The idea of this run was to have fun and we all certainly achieved that.
Also on the Friday we had fun events in the sports hall including throwing wet sponges at teachers including Mr. Roberts and Mrs. Ingham-Hill which entertained other students and teachers alike. Climbing races, penalty shoot outs with football and hockey. Table tennis matches with teachers and finally self defence, which was a major attraction where our self defence instructor let students and teachers try to beat him for 30 seconds at a time. Overall the sports hall attractions raised £90. Thank you to all teachers and students who took part in Friday’s attractions.
Overall the sports relief day was a huge success and the money raised will go towards helping children have a brighter future by giving them sports equipment and trainers which will change lives for the better.
