Sixth Form Open Evening now Thu 21st Jan
Due to adverse weather conditions our Sixth Form Open Evening had to be postponed and has now been rescheduled for Thursday January 21st 2010. All information can be found below:
Sixth Form Open Evening - Thursday 21st January from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm
You are cordially invited to attend our Open Evening when you will have an opportunity to meet subject staff and view our facilities. During the evening there will be two 30 minute talks about general Sixth Form issues from the Head of Sixth Form, Phil Randall. These will take place at 4.30 pm and 6.00 pm in the Hall on the main site. Tea and coffee will be available at Place House, the Sixth Form Centre.
The format of the evening is as follows:
The Head of Sixth Form, Phil Randall, will give a presentation about general sixth form matters in the Hall (Main Site) twice during the evening. The presentation will last for about 20 minutes (plus question time) and will cover the range of courses on offer, guidance about which level to choose and how many to take, being a sixth form tutee, transport issues and the general ethos of the sixth form. These presentations will take place at 4.30 pm and 6.00 pm in the Hall. It is entirely your choice which of these you attend, but I would recommend that you start your visit with this talk and then visit individual subject staff. Information about their location will be available from the Hall.
For the rest of your time, between 5.00 pm and 7.30 pm, subject staff will be available to discuss each course and to answer any questions. They will be spread around the College in various specialist areas. Meetings and displays will be held in Place House, the Library, the Science laboratories and the Art, Photography and Technology rooms, and you will also be able to view our Motor Vehicle Engineering Workshop, Catering Training Centre, Drama studios, Dance studio and Music rooms. Tea/Coffee will be available at Place House (Sixth Form Centre).
Most staff have invited current Sixth Form students to join us on the evening so that you can talk to them about what it is really like taking their particular course.
Please park on the main site or in the car park at the bottom of Place House drive, as we cannot accommodate cars at Place House itself. There will be a minibus service to ferry people up and down Place House drive, or you can brave the brief walk up the hill.
Year 11 students currently attending South Dartmoor Community College will have had a short talk about the Sixth Form and been given a Sixth Form prospectus and application form just before the Christmas holidays. The deadline for Sixth Form applications is 8th February, after the Year 11 Parents’ Consultation Evening.
Any Year 11 students currently attending other schools who are interested in joining South Dartmoor Sixth Form are encouraged to attend the Open Evening on Thursday 21 January 2010.
